Heres a look at your news for Monday Feb. 1st, 2010
President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in Oklahoma, after the crippling winter storm that pushed through late last week. The announcement Saturday had ordered federal aid made available to supplement state and local response efforts in the areas struck by the storm. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is too coordinate all disaster relief efforts. The storm knocked out power to more than 150,000 homes and businesses and stranded travelers across Oklahoma. The National Weather Service estimated the storm dumped 8 to 10 inches of snow in Garfield County near Enid: 5 to 8 inches in the Norman area: and 4 to 6 inches around Oklahoma City.
A couple who were engaged in an argument find themselves arrested. Ardmore Police Department reports show that 44yr old Mary Jane Hughes and 45yr old Gregory R. Hughes were arrested by Cpl. Chad Anthony without incident about 9:30am Thursday morning. They were booked into the Carter County jail pending possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute charges from the 700 block of Hargrove Street. Police were originally called in on a domestic disturbance call when they arrived however, Police could hear the couple arguing over meth and called in the Narcotics officers to the scene. Both were in jail on a $2500 bond. Mary Jane Hughes was free on a $25,000 in Johnson County at the time, charged with endeavoring to manufacture math and distributing.
20yr old Steven K. Shepard of Healdton was arrested after allegedly kicking his was into his 13yr old ex-girlfriend’s home and assaulting her. Police say Shepard came to the house but was refused entry by the girl. He then kicked the door down to get inside, once in choked the girl, and took her cell phone as he was leaving so she couldn’t call police. Shepard was later arrested and identified by witnesses. Shepard was charged with first degree rape and first degree burglary. Shepard could possibly face 5yrs for the rape and 7 to 20yrs for the burglary charge. He is set to go before a judge Feb. 16th.
