Two head-on crashes on Highway 75 occurred Monday night in Van Alstyne, no more than an hour apart. The first accident happened around 7:45pm when a women was driving in the Northbound bound lane headed south clipped a Dodge pickup. The man driving the Dodge saw her coming, and swerved to avoid the accident. The woman was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The second accident around 9pm Monday night involved an Suv driven by 44yr old Bobbi Elvington of Sherman, she crashed head-on into a woman in a compact car headed northbound. The 64yr old woman from Garland Texas driving the compact car died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police say alcohol played its part in both accidents and Elvington is charged with intoxicated manslaughter. Her bond has been set at $75,000.
3 accidents on Highway 69/75 Tuesday night in Colbert started just before 7pm. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the first accident happened on the highway just north of the Leavenworth Trail overpass. A semi truck was entering southbound 69, when it was rear ended by a Ford Expedition. The two people in the Expedition were taken to TMC. Troopers say the accident was caused by the driver not paying attention. The second crash happened in the same area, when another vehicle came up on the first accident, slammed on the brakes and got rear-ended by another vehicle. The third crash, also on southbound 69, happened when a car came to a stop in the left lane. A suspected drunk driver in a pickup struck the car in the left lane and both ended up in the median. No one was hurt, but the driver of the pickup was arrested for driving under suspension, and driving while impaired by alcohol.
A group of thieves are believed to have stolen a welder from a local construction company over the weekend. Plyler Construction Company at 3505 Texoma Parkway reported a 400-pound welder stolen from its property. A Manager says the thieves unbolted it from a trailer, and then tried to load it into their vehicle using a forklift, but got the forklift stuck. Police say it appears they dragged the welder about 50 yards, lifted it over a wall and into their vehicle. The loss is estimated at roughly $4,500.
