A man was struck and killed along Highway 82 in Sherman on Sunday morning after he stopped to change a flat tire on the side of the road. Sherman Police say the investigation in ongoing. Authorities said the accident happened in the eastbound lane of 82 between FM 1417 and Highway 75 around 4am Sunday. A 20yr old man, believed to be from the Sherman area was clipped by a passing car. The man was rushed to Texoma Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The name of the man is not being released until family can be notified. No details have been released on the other driver. Police are still looking into the crash, but say it is possible that person could face charges.

A fire tore through a Tom Bean home on Saturday evening. Several crews were called out to the fire on FM 697 around 7pm. Fire Fighters on the scene reported smoke coming from the second story of a wood frame house and were able to put it out quickly. Grayson County officials say there were no injuries from the fire.

A fire also destroyed part of a Denison home Saturday afternoon off Spur 503. Denison firefighters said the fire started in the kitchen. The fire was put out but serious smoke damage was done throughout the home. The Red Cross is now assisting the home owner.   

William “Butch” Lawrence Coffey III was arrested for what authorities say is a cold case murder out of Georgia. The killing happened more than 3 decades ago, and more than 1,000 miles away. Authorities say they have solved the case with an arrest made in Marietta Oklahoma. Almost 35yrs ago investigators say Bronzi Leon Peppers was shot in the head and killed outside of Augusta Georgia. Coffey now stands accused of murder and is being held in the Love County Jail on a warrant for his role in a 1975 killing of Peppers. Marietta Police say they arrested the 58yr old in the 100 block of 2^nd Street N.E… Officers say when they pulled up to the property Coffey was on the front porch and surrendered before they even served the warrant. Georgia investigators say when Coffey was in his early 20’s he took part in the murder, and that the shooting death was over drugs. People in the area say Coffey has been a wonderful person and neighbor since they have known him. Coffey has lived in Love County for a number of years without any kind criminal record. Investigators in Georgia say they arrested another man who they believe also took part in the shooting. They also said they don’t believe Coffey actually pulled the trigger in the murder, but say he played an active role in the crime.
