Joshua Dewayne Moore who is charged in the 2009 death if his girlfriend, made his first appearance in Love County District Court Friday afternoon. This comes a week after District Attorney Craig Ladd filed the first degree manslaughter charge that accuses him of the April 11, 2009 death of Keiona Nicole Hubbard. Moore had to be transported from an Oklahoma State prison in order to make the appearance where he is serving a 5yr sentence on an unrelated weapons charge. The preliminary hearing was set for 9am, April 12th in the case and more than 35 people are listed as witnesses for the state on court documents filed in the case.
There are a couple area school bonds up for election this Tuesday in the area. One is that of Plainview schools, where technology and repairs are what school officials hope to take care of with a $975,000 bond issue. If the bond passes it would not go into effect until after current bonds go off the books therefore continuing the current tax rate. Davis is also looking to upgrade by building a new building for the 1st through 4th grade students replacing the 42yr old underground structure they now use. Superintendent Mike Martin said the $2.54 million bond would not only enable them to afford a new elementary building, but would also put new metal roofs on the auditorium and physical education rooms, and replace aging heating and air conditioning units at the high school.
Details remain unclear about an accident in Sherman that sent 2 people to the hospital Friday night. The wreck happened around 10pm, near the intersection of FM 1417 and Center Street. Officials say the wreck had emergency crews rushing to transport 2 people to the hospital. One person was taken to Wilson N Jones while the other was flown to Plano. The Sherman Police Department is not releasing the victim’s names right now, or any details into what caused the wreck.
2 other people are recovering in the hospital after another accident on FM 1417 and Highway 11 on Sunday night. Just after 8pm State Troopers and Sherman Firefighters responded to the two vehicle accident. A white pickup truck turned onto 1417, hitting an oncoming car head-on. The driver of the truck was no injured, but the man and women in the car were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Both cars were a total lose and troopers say the two transported are expected to be ok.
