Photo(s) of the Day: Trace Adkins & a Giraffe

On a visit today to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, country hit-maker Trace Adkins fed giraffes on a Serengeti Safari experience. Adkins and his family were at the park to enjoy a fun day together before he performs in Tampa tonight. The Adkins family topped off the day by feeding kangaroos at the park’s new Walkabout Way area. Brooks & Dunn – The Last and Final Rodeo Show

Last night marked an important date in country music.  It was the final show of the most awarded duo in country music history, Brooks & Dunn.

The show was surrounded with a lot of buzz and emotion.  This was the final time fans would get to hear favorites like, My Maria, Boot Scootin Boogie and Hard Working Man sang live ever again.

Tyler Dickerson opened the show and played 6 songs for an audience that was rip roaring and ready to go.

There was no huge burst of fireworks, lights or inflatables that launched when Ronnie and Kix walked out on stage.  They took the stage just as they had in every other show  in the previous 20 years.

The hour in a half show was filled with fan favorites and moments of sincerity.  And every time they would start to play a song I couldn’t help but think it would be the last time I would ever hear it sang that way.

The finale was just that a finale.  No tears, little emotion and a farewell to two men who blessed country music with great music.

Tawny and I both walked away with a feeling of disappointment.  No big hugs or high fives.  If we hadn’t known it was the last ever show you would have thought they were headed to the next city.

After talking with many of our friends it seems that everyone walked away from the show with their own take of Brooks and Dunn’s farewell.   Some said that was the way they wanted it.  To leave just the same way it started, quite and humble.  Others said their show last night reminded them of their very first Brooks and Dunn show.  And others said they were simply elated to be there to witness and celebrate their favorite country music artists’ farewell.

No matter how you left the show feeling last night everyone who was there knows they witnessed a special event and know that country music will never be the same again.  There will never be another Brooks and Dunn…..thanks for the ride boys.

Gerry House & Mike Bohan Bid Farwell to WSIX

For over three decades, Middle Tennessee residents were kept company on their morning commutes by funny-man Gerry House and the laughing Mike Bohan on WSIX.  Today, Gerry and Mike announced that “The House Foundation” would air it’s last show on December 15th.

“The reason I’m doing it, and I’ve said this before, is that every 20 or 30 years, I like to shake things and do something different… just bust out and try something different,” Gerry said. “The management here has been fabulous. No one is mad at anybody…sometimes it just feels right.”

We will miss Gerry and Mike. In fact, there was a giant lump in my throat as I listened to Gerry’s announcement this morning. The guys have become like old friends to so many listeners, bringing laughs and a little bit of stress relief in rough morning traffic. I’m willing to bet many artists will miss talking to Gerry in the mornings also…Listening to his interviews were like listening to friends catch-up on life…

We will miss you Gerry and Mike!! We wish you the best of luck, and maybe we’ll catch you on the air again someday. The airwaves won’t be the same without you.

You can listen to Gerry & Mike’s farewell announcement here.

Keith Urban Wants to “Put You in a Song” on September 13th

On September 13th Keith Urban will release his debut single “Put You In A Song”, from his forthcoming Tuesday, November 16th release Get Closer. “Put You In A Song” was co-written by Urban, Sarah Buxton and Jedd Hughes and is co-produced by Dann Huff and Keith.

“I’ve always loved songs about ‘the guy in love with the unattainable girl’, said Urban of “Put You In A Song. “And the idea that the only chance that this poor guy is ever going to have to get close to the object of his affection is to put her in a song, just struck me. That way he’d be able to take her with him everywhere he goes…day and night.

Keith added, “On my way to write with Jedd (Hughes) and Sarah (Buxton), I stopped by this music shop and bought a bouzouki. I got it out of the case, we got a great groove going on the drum machine, I started playing the opening riff and the song just took off.”

Keith is currently in the studio in Nashville, putting the finishing touches on Get Closer.
