Veteran Bills

Two Oklahoma State Bills that would benefit Veterans are awaiting appropriation before going to Governor.

House Bill 1555 creates a Veteran’s Treatment Court program.  Which would allow Veterans a type of drug court atmosphere they could benefit from by the Oklahoma Mental Health Association.  Veterans often return home changed and in a different mental state including Post Traumatic Stress Order and depression.  This would allow them to be screened and determine if the cause of the incident was caused by the stress of battles.

Then Senate Bill 138 would put the American Flag on all veterans drivers license, allowing them the ability to verify their veteran status.

State Representative Pat Ownbey said this is just one small thing they can give to people who gave so much..

Highway 199 Construction

If you’re driving down Highway 199 between Ardmore and Dickson you may notice some major changes including driving a new section of the HWY a project the Oklahoma department of Transportation started last year.

Yesterday ODOT and road crews opened up the south side lanes and closed the north side lanes.  Although 199 is still a two lane road for now ODOT says they are going to demolish the north section and redo that section of the highway.

ODOT asks drivers be patient and also safe of road crew workers and pay attention to changes since this is such a big project they are planning a September 2011 opening of all 4 lanes.

Tishomingo Stabbing

Two people we’re injured in a stabbing incident in Tishomingo on Tuesday afternoon.

The call went out just after 2:00 p.m. in the 1300 block of Main St.

When authorities arrived they found two people stabbed.

One victim had to be flown out with a stab wound to the neck with the other person taken to the local hospital.

It was Tishomingo’s emergency alert system that let folks in town know they were looking for a suspect who was on the loose.

In the end, police did take one man into custody.

Police say the suspect, Michael Hesbrook, had to be tazed after he tried to attack them.

He’s behind bars, but no word on what caused this attack or the conditions of the victims
