What’s better this time a year than a visit to the park, for residents on the southwest side of Ardmore that can be difficult, but that’s about to change.
The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce gathered on Thursday to dedicate land for a new park near Plainview High School.
It’s all part of the Ardmore Vision 20/20 project started by the Chamber to help improve community life.
The park is still in the works and is needing some funding before the slides are in but two foundations in Ardmore say they will match dollar for dollar the community donations that come in.
Ardmore Vision 20/20 is asking the community to get involved and donate for information contact the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce at 580-2237765.
Love County Man Hunt
Law enforcement in Love County are searching for a person who took off on foot during a traffic stop Thursday night. They do not have a good description but are hoping someone may come forward with information.
Undersheriff Jason Bone says they’ve contained the suspect to an area about one mile east of Thackerville.
As of last night they were using thermal imaging trying to find this person.
OHP, Love County Sheriff’s deputies, Thackerville Police officers and Gainesville Police officers were on the scene till late in the evening..
They say the individual was wearing blue sweater and blue jeans, has white or blond hair, and is about 5′8″ 160 lbs. Authorities could not determine whether the person was a male or female. We will have an update on our website as information comes available.
If you have any information please contact your local authorities.
Keeping in Touch A World Away
To help keep Oklahoma National Guard Troops connected with the ones they love, AT&T will donate 401 pre-paid calling cards to soldiers from the 1/180th CAV Squadron, based in Durant. The original initiative, known as “Forget Me Not,” was started by the Bryan County VFW Post 3916, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce in January.
“Upon contacting AT&T to ask for their assistance we were informed they were already at work on securing the cards” stated Janet Reed, Executive Director Durant Area Chamber of Commerce.
Jason Winborn, AT&T Area Manager of External Affairs has worked closely with the project making sure each deploying soldier would leave with a calling card. “While we can never truly pay back our troops for the sacrifices they make, we hope that by providing them with a means to stay connected with the ones they love we can make their deployment - and their time away from family and friends - a little bit easier,” said Winborn.
The National Guard Troops from the 1/180th CAV Squadron will deploy to Afghanistan in April. In doing so, they must say goodbye to family, friends, and those they love while overseas.
The calling cards will be presented to the deploying soldiers Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, in Durant.
