Songwriter Sam Hunt took to Twitter on Sunday and made a questioning allegation that the song was stolen from him.
“Cop Car” is the third single from Keith’s Fuse album and Sam is listed as a co-writer on the song so we are still puzzled as to why he is so upset. Sam tells Taste of Country the song is based on experiences from his own life saying:
I worked hard on "Cop Car." Everything I poured into that song was stolen from me. I unfortunately can't celebrate it being on the Grammys— Sam Hunt (@SamHuntMusic) January 27, 2014
“I sort of tweaked a few parts, but the basis is the same. I won’t go into it too much, short of ‘inspired by’ some events that happened to me a few years ago in Alabama.”
Sam did also released his own version of “Cop Car” on his Between the Pines album, but we are still not sure what he meant in his tweet and without further explanation we may never know. Accusing someone of stealing is pretty harsh and we hope we will hear more form Sam about what he means exactly.
Sam is listed as a co-writer on the song. Country Music Tattle Tales is currently working on a reason he is so upset with Urban's version of the song.
